Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation is a mental exercise that evolves four elements; relaxation, awareness, Focus, and stillness. Meditation is a type of mind-body medicine. Some research suggests that meditation and mindfulness practices may affect the functioning or structure of the brain.
What are the science-based benefits of Meditation?
During Meditation, brain scans see increased activity in regions directly correlated with decreased anxiety, and depression, along with increased pain tolerance.
Meditators have higher levels of Alpha waves, which have been shown to reduce feelings of negative mood, tensions, Sadness, and Anger.
Studies found that after 8 weeks of the Meditation program, grey matter of the brain was denser in areas associated with learning, memory processing, and emotion regulation.

In a study where both meditators and non-meditators were given the flu virus, meditators were able to produce a greater number of antibodies and had increased immune system.
Why mindfulness is important
To be mindful means, to be here and now, to be in the present moment. Mindfulness meditation helps with day-to-day tasks and it can help to improve concentration and working memory. Mindfulness also helps in the thought process
Mindfulness practice enhances attention, improves emotion regulation, and reduces stress. Mindfulness meditation has potential for the treatment of clinical disorders and might facilitate the cultivation of a healthy mind and increased well-being.
